Default New meat

I just picked up guild wars and factions and have a couple of dumb questions.
First is there a place to buy bags for you characters and on some vendors I see the sell a flute and a girls cape. am i supposed to buy them for someone? I have also got quite a bit if the red flowers are they for some one or just vendor fodder?

Thanks in advance for the help. Will probably have a lot more questions in the near future.

The red iris flowers, flute andgirl's cape can all be given to Gwen. You'll find her playing in the grass behind the rez shrine just outside Ascalon City. Giving her these things makes her like you more, and there will come a point where she'll want to follow you around (she heals you if she's following you too, so she can be handy to have around sometimes). She will also give you a tapestry shred, which you can't sell but you will need it for a certain quest in Eye of the North if and when you add that game to your account (so once you get it, hang onto it because she only gives you one).

As far as bags and extra inventory space go, you can get a belt pouch from a collector just outside Ascalon City. After the Searing (you'll know it when it happens), you will be able to buy extra bags from merchants for a very reasonable price.

There are no merchants that sell bags in pre-searing. You can get a belt pouch from a few collectors. The easiest one to collect is the one outside Ascalon City (near Gwen) who takes Skale Fins.
You will also find people in Ascalon City who are selling "Charr Bags". They are very expensive compared to the bags you can get post-searing, but it's handy to have 1 (out of a possible 2) if you plan to explore a lot of pre-searing.

Gwen gives you a quest to find her lost flute. After you find her flute (it's broken ) she will follow you around (if you want).
If you buy her a new flute and give it to her she will be happier. Then she will heal you a bit as she follows you.
Btw, after you give her the flute she will stand there and play it until you click on her. She will say "I'll wait here", then you click on her again to get her to follow you again.

If you buy her a cape she will be even happier and may heal you even more (not sure).

If you give her enough flowers - the number depends upon whether you bought her only the flute or the flute+cape - she will give you a Tapestry Shred. The Tapestry Shred serves no purpose until a quest in Eye of the North.
Once she gives you the Shred you can just sell any flowers to the merchant.

Oh, and also, there is a bug occasionally - if Gwen already has a red cape and is carrying a flute when you first see her, you can't get the Tapestry Shred. I'm not sure if she still heals you.

Don't waste gold on cape or flute. Just give flowers to Gwen until she gives you a tapestry shred, then you can sell flowers to merchant.

The flute only costs 4 gold and saves you many flowers which are worth 5 gold each. Nice grasp of economics there.

Sorry, but I don't know how many flowers a flute is worth. Do you?

Besides ... I was trying to make a simple reply without going into economics 101.

Your snotty reply was not needed. A simple correction would have been sufficient.

Quote: The Flute can be bought from merchants in Pre-Searing for 4 gold.

As was mentioned earlier, and also on GW wiki.

BWAAHAHAHAHAHHA @ the failure to fully read flamers.

ANYWAY.......

I suggest as this is youfirst time in pre-searing to hang out ther until level 6 or so, do as many of the quest as you can that GIVE you skills, they get costly later on.

Also, save your Dyes don't sell them to the vendors, they are worth alot more later on, well once you move to post-searing.

Also in Eye of the North you haven't changed, but Gwen is all grown up, weird huh? I wonder if Gwen ever took that flute to band camp?

Those guys (and gals) are usually perma-pre characters who spend their entire existance in pre-searing. In general, it's good advice though - if you get a black dye, don't use it and don't sell it to a merchant. Black dyes are worth a considerable amount of gold AFTER the training area and should only be sold once you've checked the price at a dye trader (not available until you have passed the training level).

Ahhh Snograt thats true. The guy i was thinking of was a new guy though and he realized it after a few guys mentioned it to him.

Back to the OP, have fun, take your time in pre-searing area. Check out the pretty graphics, dont be in too much of a rush to leave the area to post-searing (youll know it when you get there, as in "Thats why they are calling it searing!") My first character left that area at lvl 11 and with a lot of anxiety since it was so comfortable there. Do each quest you come by and try all the secondary professions. Again, have fun.
